Luftwaffe, Me 109 Type Metal Shield.

Aluminium based and in a very good, slightly used condition. Size approx 10 x 2,5 cm.
Main type metal plate for a Me 109 G-6 tropics with R6 upgrade kit (nacelle armament under the wings, 2 x MG 151/20). The tropical version was intended for southern countries or Africa. Visably identifiable by the sand filter in front of the air inlet of the high-altitude loader. Manufacturer „mep“ for Messerschmitt Werke Regensburg. The machine had the serial number „16591“. The identification of the manufacturer was KV + GM. It was manufactured in early 1943 and delivered to Jagdgeschwader 53 in Tunisia. On April 20, 1943, the La Marsa airfield was attacked by allied bombers. About 40% of the aircraft were damaged in this attack. A few days later, at the end of April 1943, the airfield was captured by British troops. The nameplate was taken as a souvenir by a Royal Air Force officer.
