Gold Close Combat Clasp. Maker C.E. Juncker Berlin.

Zinc based and in a very good, slightly worn condition with most of the gilt plate still present and some patina. The non-magnetic backplate with lots of the original dark finish.
Marked on the reverse with „FEC. W.E. Peekhaus Berlin“ and the maker „C.E. Juncker Berlin“.
Extremely difficult to find and in a very good condition.

The close combat clasp in gold was awarded for 50 days of close combat. Hand-to-hand combat days were all days of combat on which the fighters to be awarded saw “the white in the eye of the enemy”; and to have stood face to face with the opponent with close combat weapons until the final decision. It was considered the highest infantry award of its time. Hitler reserved the right to award it himself and only a little over 600 are documented as being awarded.
