Commemorative Medal to the Centenary of the Garde-Füsilier-Regiment „Maikäfer“ 1826-1926

Silver based and in a very good, slightly worn condition. The obverse with eagle clutching sword and scepter in its talons, with guards star on its breast. The reverse with a ladybird (Maikafer) with laurel and oak leaf wreath. Size approx. 32,8 mm. On the original triangular ribbon.

The Guard Fusilier Regiment was an infantry unit of the Guard Corps of the Prussian Army with a garrison in Berlin. In keeping with the noble character of the Guard, the ranks of the officer corps were predominantly made up of the aristocracy.
The regiment was popularly nicknamed the the Ladybirds.

In 1826 the Guard Reserve Infantry (Landwehr) Regiment was founded. In 1851 it was renamed the Guard Reserve Infantry Regiment. In 1860, as part of the Roon army expansion, it was given the name Guard Fusilier Regiment. The regimental staff and the 1st battalion were initially stationed in Potsdam and the 2nd battalion in Spandau (today a district of Berlin). From 1851 to 1918 the entire regiment was in the Maikäfer barracks in Berlin.
