Group, Spanish Cross for Next of Kin.

A group of items from the belongings of the Gefreiten Karl Schäfer and his parents. Schäfer served with the panzer unit of the Legion Condor and was killed on 22.7.1937 by an accident during weapons training near Cubas tödlich. Comprised of:

– Spanish Medaille Sufrimiento por la Patria, The Spanish version of the wound badge in the pattern for foreigners. Also the large fitting document.

– Spanish Medalla de la Campaña

– Bronze Spanish Cross with Swords. Very good condition with all of the bronze wash still present.
Marked on the reverse with „CEJ“ for the company of C.E. Juncker from Berlin.
In the fitting blue case in a very good, slightly used condition. The blue cases were later used exclusively for the silber Spanish Crosses but in this case it seems the blue was considered more dignified perhaps.
Also the large award document with embossed seal in a very good, slightly used condition.

– The Spanish Cross for Next of Kin in an excellent, probably unworn condition with all of the dark oxidised finish still present. The eagles all attached seperatly and with a long piece of original ribbon. The fitting black case in a very good, barely used condition. Embossed in gold on top of the lid with an image of the cross.
Also the A4 size award document with embossed seal in good condition.

– Commemorative folder of the Panzer-Gruppe Drohne, with original signature of Oberst Thoma, contained within a short report on the accident, a map of the area as well as several photos of the memorial and the accompanying letter to the parents.

– Large press photo of the memorial.

– A newspaper article about the commemoration service for Members of the Legion Condor. The bearer of the placard with the name of Gefreiten „Karl Schäfer“ is marked.

– The work book of Karl Schäfer with a photo of him in RAD uniform.

– The fathers letter of appointment as a civil servant with the state railway.

– Seven modern photocopies of Karl Schäfers burial.

The Spanish Cross for Next of Kin is extremly difficult to find on its own, as such a group practically impossible.
