NSDAP Silver Gau Honour Badge Baden. Maker FR Klett Karlruhe

Tombak/brass based and in a very good, slightly worn condition with all of the silver plate still present and some patina.
Marked on the reverse with the maker „FR Klett Karlruhe“. With the typical thin pin a safety device to prevent it opening.
Size approx. 45 x 34 mm. Weight approx. 12g.
Very difficult to find Gaubadge in nice condition.

The Baden Badge of Honor was created in 1933 by the Gauleiter of Baden, Robert Wagner. The occasion was the tenth anniversary of the NSDAP in Baden. It was awarded in gold and silver. In silver it was awarded to party members who were members before October 27, 1927. The reason for setting the date was the state elections in Baden, in which the NSDAP recorded large gains in votes and, as a result, the number of members also rose sharply. The Gau honour badge in gold was awarded to party members who were already members of the NSDAP before November 9, 1923 (Hitler putsch in Munich). Gauleiter Robert Wagner (October 13, 1895 – August 14, 1946) was already involved in the Hitler putsch in 1923 and was sentenced to 1 year and 3 months in prison for his participation. This was eventually commuted to 4 years probation. He was instrumental in building
the NSDAP in Baden and founded the Gau Baden in 1925. He also transferred the Schlageterbund to the SA. In the Schlageterbund he gathered the members of the SA and NSDAP, which had been banned after the National Socialists seized power. He was named Reich Governor and Gauleiter of Baden on May 5, 1933. After the occupation of France, he became head of civil administration in Alsace. Wagner was instrumental in the deportation of Jews in Alsace, Lorraine, Baden and the Palatinate. In 1946 he was sentenced to death and executed on August 14, 1946.
